Slick Pick Ups from the LCS
I never know what I'll walk away with from visits to the LCS. I usually go in knowing what set or player boxes I want to look through, and the owner always asks "what's it going to be today?" On days when he's already assisting two or three customers, I'll just wait patiently and either look at what's in the cases or in the 70% off trays or $1 boxes that sit on top of two of the cases.
The problem with 70% off trays or dollar boxes is that it's so easy to finish rummaging through them and finding yourself with a handful of cards that eat into the funds you were hoping to spend on X. It's typically called impulsive buying when done at the market. But cards are cards, and any addition to the collection is a positive thing. Right? Right?!!
My most recent LCS visit netted me a few slick such picks, beginning with this Pinnacle Aficionado Slick Picks Chipper Jones. Whew! That’s a mouthful! It's also an insert I never knew existed.
Speaking of inserts that I knew nothing about, say hello to 2K Countdown from 1999 Upper Deck Encore. Those late 90s/early 2000 cards had 2 much going on. But for 45 cents, I'll take it. This - and the Slick Picks- is the kind of stuff I can take or leave. Who knows, maybe they'll be trade material for something I really want on TCDB!
2024 Stadium Club Chief Fantasy Professionals. Yet another insert set that was created just for the sake of creating content. Kind of like a blogger showing off these cards he doesn't really care about. Content, baby.
Let's see... 4 x .45 = $1.80. That's four cards so far which the money could have gone toward something I really wanted. At least I've seen this card before (seems like I owned it at one time?). If we're talking Ultra inserts, I much prefer the Strikeout, Home Run and RBI Kings.
I've never been much of a Pinnace fan but I do like the Team Pinnacle cards- at least the earlier versions of the insert set. This was one from the dollar bin, and I'll gladly keep it in the collection.
Now we're talking!!! My sixth and final card was one that I was able to check off the wantlist. I wish it was centered a little better but hey, for a buck, I'll take it like a man and say, "thank you, sir!"
Thanks for checking in on this Monday and I hope your week is off to a good start!
Nice slick-ups, I mean, pick-ups. As with anyone visiting their LCS, I'm always jealous to see the cards acquired. I've been to mine a few times but because I'm not a specific team collector, it's hard to find stuff. And because the people I collect are so specific, and historical mostly, it's even harder.
ReplyDeleteI can feel your pain, PK. I encounter issues trying to find trade partners on TCDB at times because my wantlists can be pretty narrow. I'm trying to widen it (as per my recent non-Topps additions), just so I don't get to the point where I can't add anything to the collection.
