Never Even Considered

As any collector can tell you, there is always something new (or, not so “new”) to discover. Regionals, odd-balls, food-issues, promos… the list can go on and on. Sometimes it’s something right under your nose. I made such a discovery last night while entering cards into my TCDB account.

I had planned on no longer using the popular site for cataloging my collection. My fear was in “what if” scenarios: “what if the site goes down for an extended period of time and I can’t access it?” “What if it gets sold and is absorbed by another company?” “What if…what if..what if.” Also, to be honest, the ads are annoying and I really don’t want to pay to use it, even if it’s just $5/mo.

So, spreadsheets had been created and done over, time and time again, always looking for the most efficient way to track my collection. I even started using tables to create a better looking and more efficient sheet. But ultimately, I decided to just stick with TCDB and let the chips fall where they may.

And it’s a good thing I did because otherwise I never would have added the above card to the collection. I had a stack of the Match the Stats cards from a box of 1992 Topps that I had opened but never paid attention to them. And since I had the Aaron in the bunch, I decided to check it off on the database.

How about you? Do you add such oddities to your team or player collection? I’m just gonna sit on the stack I have and decide if it’s worth trying to sell or trade.
