Just Like Old Times

I miss the days when I had regular inbound mail. Well, cards in the mailbox, anyway. Who has time for bills and other junk? It didn’t matter if they were from trades off the blogs or from TCDB, eBay purchases, or COMC and Sportlots binges, those good old days of not too-long ago had a steady flow of packages and PWEs. And until recently those days seem to have disappeared.

One of my recent multi-mail piece days included a couple of trades off of TCDB. I've had a much tougher time in recent months trying to find trading partners. Part of it has to do with what I have available for trade, while other times I've found matches- only to have that person on vacation/hiatus/or whatever other term you want to use. One user, ChicagoPatla, sent me a trade proposal in which he asked for some 1980 Topps football singles for my choice of two 1978 Topps Strikeout Leaders. While the card doesn't have as sharp corners as I would like, I decided to go through with the trade. It will certainly work as a filler until I find an upgrade.

Bowersbird, another TCDB user, sent the Opening Day Chipper. I had the card in the blue parallel but needed the base card. The card also features a different photo than the flagship base card of the Braves legend. So of course it has to go in the collection!

I wasn't collecting in 1990 (I would return to the Hobby one year later) so it's always fun getting some of the Anniversary inserts. Makes me feel like I'm back in time. And speaking of back in time... how good is the nickname Nacho? Reminds me of 60-70 years ago when you would see players with some neat nicknames. As I've mentioned before, better photos does wonders for a design that I didn't really like. This card rolled in from an eBay purchase.

Another eBay purchase was this 2025 2024 Topps True Photo Variation of Braves closer Raisel Iglesias. I saw this on the 'Bay and have to admit, I thought it was a 2025. And for the price the seller was asking, I thought that's way too low for what these are going for! So, I bought it with the intention of flipping it for a tidy little profit. Only, I later realized that it was a 2024 and was priced at about what they've been going for. Hmph. Oh well, I don't have any TPV's in the collection so it'll be a nice addition to the binder.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Hump Day!

  1. I'll have to get a trade going with you (wishful thinking entering busiest time of year). My TCDB trades have dropped to zero.

  2. I had to look up the TPV thing as it's not in my knowledge. Or, it wasn't. So it's basically the card without the Topps graphics? NIce pick up nonetheless. I'm quasi-partial to 1990 as I was still collecting then, though on the cusp of leaving it for high school things. So I do like the original and often find that the photos now are "too" good. I wish they could figure out some filter to apply to make the cards look like they were taken with film & processed the old way.
